Letter received from Visitors Complimenting Greene County Tourism

Dear Our Iowa magazine,

We were winners in the “Lucky I Contest” last summer through Our Iowa.  We received 5 – $20.00 Chamber Bucks very quickly from Jefferson Matters: A Main Street & Chamber Community.

We decided to stretch the event into four separate trips to Greene County (we live in Ames and are retired).  The first was on a Sunday afternoon. We ate at the Mexican restaurant in Jefferson and enjoyed a ride up the elevator in the Mahanay Carillon Bell Tower. My work had allowed me to alter the Jefferson skyline with a dust control filter at the Landus Elevator and 8 huge exhaust vents on the roof of the Tofu Factory. It was fun to get a different perspective on that! We also enjoyed the rest of the view from the tower, as well as the well-placed roof art that is on some of the nearby businesses.

For our second trip, our daughter went with us. We visited the quilt shop and admired the dozens and dozens of bolts of cloth that they stock. We also enjoyed a trip to the A & W for a frosty mug of root beer. The A & W in Jefferson is one of the few in this area.

Our third trip was to Bet and Bev’s BBQ under the overpass in Jefferson. Very good!

Today we went to Paton to the 209 Main Restaurant for a noon lunch. Also, a very good restaurant.

We also visited the Lincoln Highway Park on the northeast side of Grand Junction and took a walk near the Adkins Bridge Access Park out southeast of Cooper.

All in all, we had a very pleasant experience and look forward to being Lucky I Contest winners again!
