Located on the southeast corner of the downtown square, the Gardens bring to life the prairies that welcomed Lewis and Clark explorers and early settlers, heritage plants from Monticello, farming practices of Thomas Jefferson’s time, outdoor musical instruments to experience, a children’s garden, and so much more. A recent review of Thomas Jefferson Gardens is as follows: “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness” – written words that rang out, loud and clear as the bells of the Mahanay Bell Tower nearby. Forever echoing the sentiment of America and the blessings we enjoy. Come and sit a spell in this beautiful area. Native flowers, vegetables, fruits, musical installations and a statue and pavilion of the President for which this park is named. If DC is a little far, stop by Jefferson, IA for some small town American charm, a worthy stop in ones pursuit of happy-ness.
