Greene County Medical Center Honors Healthcare Workers during Celebration Weeks

Greene County Medical Center celebrated National Hospital Week May 9 through 15, 2021. National Hospital Week is celebrated nationally each year in May, to highlight hospitals, health systems and health care workers and the innovative ways they are supporting the needs of their communities. Greene County Medical Center honors healthcare workers and all team members annually during this celebration week. National Nurses Week is also celebrated in May. A committee of nursing staff at Greene County Medical Center planned massages, free ice cream, a gift as well as chamber bucks to spend locally for the nursing staff. National Hospital Week entailed a full week of activities for all team members including an employee cornhole tournament, an outdoor picnic and drive-thru meal, and root beer floats. During these recognition weeks, Emergency Department Manager, Lori Herrick, RN, was named Greene County Medical Center’s DAISY Award honoree at a ceremony Thursday, May 6. Other nominees recognized at the Daisy Award event were Cassie Fowler, Julie Mosher, Sara Fleecs, Deb Wolterman, Maribel Castellanos, Terry Rottinghaus. Herrick’s nomination came from Allie Hamilton. In the nomination letter, Hamilton talked about how Herrick went to great measures helping fill out a 25 page referral packet for a recurring psychiatric patient to get them the help they needed, stating “This type of nursing in my eyes is above and beyond. It is often missed in the day-to-day routine. I commend Lori for going the extra mile and taking the time needed for our patients.” Herrick has worked at the Medical Center for 33 years in multiple departments. She has been the emergency department manager since 2007. Herrick was also the 2014 Employee Exemplifying Excellence award recipient at the Medical Center. Greene County Medical Center has recognized nurses with the internationally-known DAISY Award since 2014. Nominations can be made throughout the year by patients, their family members, caretakers, community members and co-workers. Nomination forms and submission boxes are located throughout the Medical Center or are available electronically by visiting the Medical Center’s website, gcmchealth.com. Emily Christensen, Exercise Specialist in Care Management at Greene County Medical Center, was awarded a Partner of Nursing award Wednesday, May 5. Nominees of the Partner of Nursing award work consistently with nurses through collaboration, respect and support to achieve the outcomes that are in the best interests of our patients and families. Partner of Nursing Award nominees display open communication with nurses, provide positive support and influence on the professional practice of nursing. Other nominees recognized for the Partner of Nursing award include Heather Rivera, Dannea Anderson, Sara Miller, Don Wills, and Tam Andre. Christensen received two nominations from nursing staff. One nomination letter stated, “Care Management nurses would not be able to provide the quality of care we provide without Emily’s expertise. She is continuously looking for ways she can assist in improving care to our patients and is an essential member of our team. The addition of Emily to our team has definitely improved our program. I often receive positive comments from other departments, providers and patients regarding the care she provides. She is definitely a partner to nursing!” CEO Tracy Warner commented, “National Hospital Week and Nurses Week allow us to celebrate the contributions our direct care staff and all team members who work tirelessly each day, and especially this last year, to provide excellent healthcare to the communities we serve. A special thank you to both committees who planned activities. Congratulations to the winners and nominees for the awards ceremonies held. And also a thank you to our Auxiliary volunteers who provided candy for employees to enjoy.”
