Historical Building Plaques grant submitted

GO BACK

A group of volunteers from various Jefferson Matters: Main Street Teams have been meeting since December to prepare a grant request for 30 historical building plaques for downtown properties.  The City provided some match through hotel/motel funds.  This grant application was sent to Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation.

A bronze plaque similar to those in mind was completed earlier this year and installed on Sensibly Chic at 111 E Lincoln Way.  This building was called the Kendall Building with Rosie Tucker’s family involved in owning it way back.

A set of criteria with contributing buildings to the Jefferson Historic District and Tourism ties were part of the selection process.  These volunteers contacted each building owner to determine their interest and provide a monetary pledge toward the project.  Thirty downtown buildings are involved.  The committee felt the impact of all 30 at one time instead of each individually would be a great attraction for visitors and residents.  Committee members include Debra McGinn, Angie Gingery, Sandra Drewry, Ginny Showman and Dianne Piepel.

Grow Greene County will announce grant awards on April 7.
