Greene County Youth to Celebrate National 4-H Week October 3-9

Greene County, Iowa – The anticipation is building for National 4-H Week, during which millions of youth, parents, volunteers and alumni across the country will be celebrating everything 4-H. Greene County 4-H will observe National 4-H Week this year by showcasing the incredible experiences that 4-H offers young people and will highlight the remarkable 4-H youth in our community who work each day to make a positive impact on those around them.

The theme of this year’s National 4-H Week is Find Your Spark, which highlights how 4-H encourages kids to take part in hands-on learning experiences in areas such as health, science, agriculture and civic engagement. The positive environment provided by 4-H mentors ensures that kids in every county and parish in the country  ̶  from urban neighborhoods to suburban schoolyards to rural farming communities  ̶  are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles and are empowered with the skills to lead in life and career.

During National 4-H Week, Greene County 4-H volunteers and the Greene County Young Leader team will be visiting Greene County and Paton-Churdan 4th graders to tell them about 4-H and how to join.  We will also be holding the following club and individual opportunities:

Decorate a store window: Go into your communities and let people know that it is National 4-H Week! The club that wins will be announced on the Greene County 4-H Facebook page and will also receive a FREE pizza party!

Refer a new member to Greene County 4-H: Do you know someone interested in 4-H? When they complete their enrollment information and let me know what 4-Her they were referred by, that 4-H’er will get their name into a drawing to win prizes!

Wear your 4-H t-shirt: What a perfect week to show off your 4-H green by wearing your 4-H shirts! Upload a picture of you wearing your 4-H shirt to Facebook using the hashtag #GC4HGrowsLeaders2021. Each 4-H’er that uploads a picture will be put into a drawing to win a prize!

Pumpkin Decorating Contest: Each 4-H’er that chooses to participate will purchase a pumpkin and decorate it. The pumpkin can be decorated in any way you choose.

After decorated, send Kayla a photo. Photos will be posted on the Greene County 4-H Facebook page for voting. Whichever photo has the most likes and shares that individual will win a prize.

Deadline to submit photos: October 1st.  Voting will open on the October 3rd and will close on October 9th. (National 4-H Week). One pumpkin Entry Per 4-H’er.

“4-H is a great organization to be a part of. We strive to teach leadership and communications skills to our youth for them to better contribute to our community in the future,” said Kayla Willms, Greene County Youth & 4-H Coordinator.
