Great American Main Street update

The Jefferson Matters: Main Street Board and City of Jefferson are anxiously awaiting word if Jefferson is selected as a semi-finalist for the prestigious Great American Main Street Award.  Main Street Iowa staff encouraged Jefferson to apply in early July.  President Jamie Daubendiek and Director Peg Raney were interviewed by the selection committee in August.  Main Street America CEO Patrice Frey visited Jefferson in early November accompanied by Main Street Iowa coordinator Michael Wagler.

There are up to 10 communities selected as semi-finalists and highlighted at the National NOW Conference which will be held in Dallas, TX from May 18-20th.   From those semi-finalist, three communities are selected as Great American Main Streets.

The time table is as follows:

  • February 4 – The National Main Street Committee sends out email announcements and posts blog announcing all GAMSA semifinalists. We could start sharing the news that we are a semifinalist on this date.
  • Early May – NMSC will post one blog every week highlighting each GAMSA semifinalist in the lead-up to the Main Street Now Conference.
  • May 18 – GAMSA finalists are announced at the Opening Plenary at Main Street Now in Dallas!
